FAQs

What is interchange?

The secret sauce of the payment business is what we call interchange. This is a very common revenue driver for companies who embed banking features through Swan. Most relevant in the B2B space, interchange sharing allows you to unlock untapped revenue potential. With Swan’s partner revenue-sharing initiative, you can benefit from a percentage of every transaction made through your embedded payment features. It’s calculated per transaction volume, but other variables are taken into account, including issuing country, type of card, total transaction amount, and even the merchant category.

What are the compliance and regulatory considerations when embedding finance into travel platforms?

Compliance and regulatory matters are a key consideration when talking about financial transactions. With Swan’s e-money license, you can offer Accounts, Cards, and Payments across the entire EEA. No need to hire a compliance team, set up a risk management process, or be audited. We handle all those codes and regulations for you, so you can focus on your core business activities.

We take the following topics very seriously and we encourage our partners to do the same.

- Data Protection and Privacy Laws: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR. This includes safeguarding personal and financial data, obtaining explicit consent, and providing users with rights to access and manage their information.
- Financial Regulations: Adhere to financial regulations such as Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. This involves verifying user identities and monitoring transactions to prevent fraud and illegal activities.
- Payment Processing Compliance: Follow standards set by payment card networks (e.g., PCI-DSS) to ensure secure handling of payment information. This includes encryption, tokenization, and secure storage of card details.

How can travel platforms manage multiple currencies through embedded banking?

Send and receive money almost anywhere in the world using a Swan International Credit Transfer. Exchange euros for a different currency, then transfer that money on either local rails or the SWIFT network.

You can transfer euros outside of the eurozone using the SWIFT network or receive credit transfers initiated outside of the eurozone. You'll receive these transfers in euros as Swan doesn't store money in currency other than euros.

What resources are required to launch embedded banking?

Partnering with a Banking-as-a-Service provider like Swan means you can launch your banking product in a matter of weeks at a fraction of the cost of working with a traditional bank. Since Swan handles the tricky compliance stuff like KYC, AML, and transaction monitoring, you don’t have to spend the time and money building a dedicated banking team in-house.
