On top of building a great product for your customers, embedding banking features is a stellar opportunity to generate additional revenue. We typically group monetization potential around 3 initiatives:
1. Increase the subscription price: in our experience with our 100+ partners, we estimate that you could increase your software subscription price by up to 20%.
2. Charge variable fees for your banking features: typically, we see fees that are proportional to the number of transactions (e.g., €0.4 per SEPA transfer) or fees that are proportional to the transaction volume (e.g., 2% of card payments in a foreign currency).
3. Generate interchange revenue: a common revenue driver for fintechs, banks, and neobanks, interchange allows the card issuer (in this case, Swan) to take a portion of each payment made with its cards — say, 1.50% for company cards. So, for every €100 spent with a card, the issuer gets around €1.50. It’s calculated per transaction volume, but other variables are taken into account, including issuing country, type of card, total transaction amount, and even the merchant category. Swan shares interchange revenue with partners based on their transaction volume.
